Shining a Light on Pedestrian Safety

Our community deserves safe and accessible streets that allow us to get where we need to go safely. Unfortunately, we know that’s often not the case with streets built for cars, not people.

With so much space dedicated to cars, the safety of pedestrians and cyclists often feels like an afterthought. Many streets lack safe pedestrian crossings, clear signage, and other transport amenities like dedicated bike lanes. This leaves us feeling unsafe and reluctant to walk or cycle.

This road safety week, it’s time to shine a light on these issues. Please take a moment to fill in this quick survey and share your experiences - what problem areas or safety concerns do you encounter when walking and cycling in our suburbs? What improvements would make you feel safer and more confident to leave the car at home more often?

Your feedback will help us prioritise advocacy to fix trouble spots across the Balmain Electorate where you feel unsafe walking or cycling. Together, we can push the government to prioritise pedestrian safety and turn our streets into shared spaces for people, not just cars.
