Our community deserves access to vibrant and thriving high streets. The proposal for a light rail corridor along Parramatta Road presents a unique opportunity to create a more pedestrian-friendly streetscape, that could revitalise Parramatta Road, increasing visitation and bringing many benefits to local businesses.
This project to breathe new life into our high street must be done the right way. We need to ensure that public transport remains in public hands, with no privatisation of services like light rail. Local businesses, which are the heart of our high streets, deserve strong support throughout any upgrades, and the community must be genuinely consulted. Any new housing developments along the corridor must also include a significant uplift in affordable housing.
