Have Your Say: 11-storey redevelopment proposed for William Street Leichhardt

Our community deserves well-planned neighbourhoods with affordable homes, green space, and the infrastructure needed to support current and future residents. Disappointingly, both the NSW Labor Government and the Labor-led Inner West Council continue to prioritise developer profits over the needs of our community.  

Right now, a developer is seeking to push through a major development at 40-76 William Street in Leichhardt. This proposal is for 203 apartments across five buildings, up to 11 storeys high, including two levels of basement car parking.

In December 2023, residents took a smaller, 5-storey version of this development to the NSW Land and Environment Court, and it was refused, based on concerns about the inappropriate bulk and height, and significant overshadowing for neighbouring properties. Now, after the NSW Labor Government re-wrote our planning laws, the developer has come back with a new proposal that’s up to six storeys higher.
